This prestigious award celebrates the remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions of APPs in urology. Each year, the APP Committee proudly selects a deserving recipient to receive this honor, highlighting the exceptional impact these professionals have in the field.

2025 Award Winner

It is with great enthusiasm that we recognize Dr. Susanne Quallich as the recipient of this year’s APP of the Year Award. Dr. Quallich’s impact on urologic care, education, and research has been nothing short of extraordinary.

A highly respected clinician, educator and researcher, Dr. Quallich has been a dedicated nurse practitioner in the University of Michigan’s Department of Urology since 2002, specializing in male sexual and reproductive health. She is among a select group of nurse practitioners in the U.S. with a CUNP certification in Urology and is a certified men’s health educator (CMHE).

Her extensive contributions to urology include authoring and co-authoring landmark publications that have helped shape the role of advanced practice providers (APPs) in urologic care. Most recently, she contributed to the AUA’s Advanced Practice Providers in Urology: A Primer on an Emerging Workforce, further cementing her influence in workforce development. Additionally, she has authored several essential textbooks that serve as foundational resources for APPs, including The Nurse Practitioner in Urology and the SUNA Core Curriculum for Urologic Nursing.

Beyond her research and publications, Dr. Quallich is a recognized leader in the field, having served on the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) Board, as Editor-in-Chief of Urologic Nursing and in numerous national and international leadership roles. Her expertise has also extended globally, collaborating with urologists in Denmark to develop a scope of practice for nurses in Copenhagen.

Throughout her career, Dr. Quallich has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the President’s Trophy for Outstanding Contributions to Urologic Nursing and the Ardeth Hale Leadership Award. She remains a sought-after lecturer and mentor, shaping the next generation of APPs in urology.

Eligibility

Recipients must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills in urology while advancing the APP role and enhancing APP visibility both regionally and nationally.
  • Delivers outstanding patient care by driving change through the implementation of evidence-based practices and innovative practice models.
  • Significantly contributes to the APP program at their respective Section/Society meeting and/or shows leadership in coordinating other APP activities/initiatives
  • An AUA Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Member in good standing who does not currently serve on the AUA APP Committee.

Winners receive a $1,000 stipend to attend the AUA Annual Meeting. The winner will be presented with their award during the APP Program (Urologic Care for the Advanced Practice Provider).
